A recent poll of more than 200 employers by the Association of Graduate Recruiters (AGR) revealed an anticipated 10.2 per cent rise in graduate vacancies.
Compared with a 4.3 per cent increase last year, the AGR statistics show a rosier picture for graduates entering the job market. Transport and logistics featured in seventh position in the top ten sectors seeing the biggest increase in recruitment, coming in at 7.0 per cent.
Commenting on this, Managing Director of logistics, procurement and supply chain recruitment company, Cast UK, Wayne Brophy, said: “This is no surprise. As we have moved out of recession, we are seeing our customers investing and hiring more people. It makes sense to tap into the graduate resource given that they are highly educated, career hungry and, in most cases, ambitious.
“The increase in recruitment in the areas of retail and logistics is no surprise as both of these sectors are indicators of economic recovery. In retail, as the financial climate improves, people spend more and in turn retailers need to take on bright, ambitious people. The same applies to logistics. As the economy grows, we see more vehicles on the roads, fuller warehouses and a greater appetite for consumerism.
“The graduate market has been quite depressed over recent years and now employers are looking to tap into this highly skilled resource.
