New warehouses open up across the UK

With the global economy showing signs of life and UK household incomes once again on the rise, the country’s supply is starting to pick up as demand for goods begins to increase. This news will surely be welcomed by anyone currently on the lookout for warehouse manager jobs, as a number of companies have responded to this growth by constructing new handling and storage facilities in various regions around the UK. Onward Holdings, for example, operates five different warehouse sites across the North of England, in places such as Ackworth, Castleford, Featherstone, South Kirkby and Scunthorpe, and is set to showcase its facilities at next month’s IMHX exhibition in Birmingham. The event will take place from March 19th to 22nd and Onward will be looking for companies to occupy its considerable storage space – which adds up to more than 750,000 square feet – now that the nation’s logistics sector is picking up. Among the company’s collection is the Langthwaite Business Park in South Kirkby, which features 14 loading docks and a total of 212,500 square feet of storage space, and is also well connected to the national motorway network thanks to its close proximity to the A1. Meanwhile, Japanese firm Vantec has recently opened a £22.5 million car parts warehouse in the north-east, which has been built in a strategic location close to Nissan’s Sunderland factory. The facility is half a kilometre long and represents the first business venture to open on one of the government’s new enterprise zones, meaning Vantec will be able to benefit from business rate relief and tax breaks to support investment in new machinery. The project has already led to the creation of 140 jobs in the area, with 60 more set to become available in the coming months, according to The Northern Echo. Communities secretary Eric Pickles has pledged the government’s commitment to creating more enterprise zones, saying: “The Government is fostering local enterprise and creating the conditions for businesses like Vantec to further invest and thrive in low tax, low regulation enterprise zones.” Looking for supply chain jobs?
