My introduction to Cast UK has been, I have to say, something of a whirlwind! Beforehand, I was excited at the prospect of joining as I knew was coming into a business that has ambitious plans, something that Wayne, our MD took the time to explain to me during the interview process.

Even before my official first day, I attended a strategy day in London with the leadership team, to discuss our plans & targets and setting the scene for a big 2018. Its fair to say I have had to hit the ground running not walking in order to keep up!

As a result, its been a hectic first two weeks, during which time I have completed our internal training course, consisting of various topic sessions with different members of the team, and have been introduced to the technology the business uses to make our working lives easier.

Cast UK have recently launched our own virtual video interviewing facility – BroadCAST. It’s been massively helpful already in allowing me to streamline our internal recruitment process, to find the best talent in the area. Since I started we have also had another new starter on the sales team, so I have been busy helping to train him, giving him the tools to quickly get to grips with the busy world of recruitment.

Recruiting new team members & training them is, of course, my primary responsibility as HR & Training manager, and it really helps that Cast UK have a terrific incentive scheme in place, with a very clear & transparent bonus structure.

There are individual & team higher flyer trips away too, one of which will hopefully see everyone in the business go to Ibiza for the weekend this Summer, which would be brilliant, and possibly slightly messy! I have heard lots of stories about the trip to the Christmas Markets in Frankfurt last year so I’m really looking forward to this short break in the sun!

What else has happened? Well in addition to all the onboarding, planning & tech, I have learned that not liking the colour orange is a potential deal breaker, that everyone here is really friendly but that some are (slightly) bonkers & that everyone in the office calls the local corner shop “The Smelly Shop” for reasons I’m not sure I want to understand…

In general though, my first two weeks have been massively enjoyable and I am honestly excited to be a part of a business where there are such major plans for 2018.
